Chateau Beausejour “Pentimento” Bordeaux

This Merlot blend is the work of Michelle D’Aprix, the only American female winemaker in Bordeaux, arguably the most traditional bastion of Old World winemaking in France.  “Pentimento”—the word taken from Lillian Hellman’s memoir--- refers to the emergence in a work of art of earlier images which have been painted over.  In the wine, it is meant to suggest the array of Michelle’s early influences which emerge in the wine.  The chemical formula seen on the label represents the composition of the soil where the grapes were grown.  The wine itself, made from biodynamically produced grapes, is powerful and elegant.  Can be drunk now or held for several years.

Domaine Bailly Reverdy Sancerre “Chavignol”

100% Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre in France’s Loire Valley.  Sancerre is often considered the “spiritual” home of Sauvignon Blanc and its purest expression.  This particular wine is delicate and lovely,  pure Sauv Blanc.

Racemi Anarkos Red

An organic blend of several indigenous Italian varietals, this wine is juicy and intense with flavors of rich dried fruit.  It is made by a wine collective which aims to preserve the character of the ancient grape varieties and winemaking traditions of the Puglia region in the face of pressures from “Big Money” winemakers.  It pairs WONDERFULLY with anything dark chocolate.

The sweet wine Moscato has enjoyed a renaissance in popularity thanks to rap stars Drake, Nicki Minaj and others.  This pink one from Australia is beautifully balanced and oh, so tasty!  Intense fruit flavors, tangy acidity and a delightful effervescence makes this a wonderful wine to sip with a sweetie by the fire.
